Our Inpatient Medicine unit is comprised of two units and located on the 8th floor of Vanderbilt University Hospital, VUH. We care for adults and geriatric patients. Services include, but are not limited to care of adult patients with a variety of medical diagnoses of the pulmonary system, gastrointestinal system, renal system, endocrine system, infectious diseases, circulatory system, neurological system, dermatological disorders, and rheumatologic disorders. 8 North is a 30-bed Med/Surg unit, including four semi-private beds. There are two negative air-flow (isolation rooms) located on 8 North. There are 27 telemetry monitoring transmitters available on the 8th floor which can be used for patients in any patient room on the 8th floor. Nurse Practitioner (NP)- Radiology Procedures JOB SUMMARY: The NP is skilled in nonvascular invasive radiologic procedures such as paracenteses, thoracenteses, thyroid biopsies, and other subcutaneous biopsies. The NP is skilled in consenting; writing H&P, orders, plans of care, problem lists, medication reconciliation, discharge summaries, and procedure notes that meet compliance standards, organizing and leading care teams, and have a passion for teaching in an academic environment. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team. The NP has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice/education and provides an environment of safe quality care. The NP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The NP performs paracenteses, thoracenteses, thyroid and other superficial biopsies. These procedures are determined through order consults that are reviewed in advance with the Nurse Coordinator and scheduled. The reviews are based on medical records and imaging. Our team is committed to the burn population by providing both physical and emotional support for patients and their families from the acute phase of care through discharge and beyond.
