Outpatient Nurse (RN)

A Brief Overview
The Outpatient Nurse (RN) is responsible for the provision of nursing care based on standards of care and professional nursing practice. The Outpatient Nurse is accountable for the outcomes of nursing care delivered in an outpatient setting that performs specialized procedures.
What you will do
Accompany patients to exam rooms, preparing patients for exams, performing and documenting vital signs, assisting with office procedures, preparing and administering medications with physician’s authorization, and drawing blood.
Provide patient education with regards to office policies, medications, and management of disease, home treatments, and special diets.
Retrieval of lab and x-ray reports, calling in prescriptions, telephone triage, obtaining referrals and authorizations, completing medical forms.
Order medical and office supplies, stocking exam rooms, cleaning rooms, cleaning instruments, disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation and other front office duties as assigned.
Coordination of pre-op workup including patient education.
Contact patients prior to procedure to review pre-op checklist and documenting communications.
Draw up medications.
Assist with patient preparation including patient assessment / monitoring before, during, and after an outpatient procedure.
Assist patient / family with post-procedure instructions.
Education Qualifications
ADN Required
BSN Preferred
Experience Qualifications
General experience in a physician office setting Preferred
Skills and Abilities
Ability to work with patients, families, physicians and other health care providers with a high level of customer service orientation
General proficient PC skills and computer knowledge
Phlebotomy skills and experience
Excellent communication skills and ability to multi-task
Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse - South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Required
Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certified - American Heart Association Preferred
