Job Summary:

In this highly technical, fast-paced, and rewarding nursing position, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide the very best care for our patients. The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) role is to assist the Nurse Manager in achieving an environment of excellence in clinical quality, safety, and service. Supports the Vision, Values, Mission, and Strategic Plans of MHS. Functions as a staff nurse and/or relief charge nurse as needed on his/her assigned unit. Assumes a nursing leadership role as delegated by the Nurse Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
  • 3 years of nursing experience required
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in Texas
  • National certification in specialty area or will obtain within one year or minimal amount of time that requirements can be met

  • Coaching/mentoring skills
  • Computer literate and knowledgeable of varied software, knowledge of general keyboarding principles, willing to learn more advanced computer skills

Job Roles:

  • Consults and communicates with Nurse Manager
  • In Collaboration with the Nurse Manager:
    • Coordinates hiring, training, evaluation/counseling and discharge of assigned unit staff
    • Participates in the planning and implementation of the unit budget
    • Facilitates the coordination of unit-based strategies for Patient Experience initiatives
    • Assumes responsibility and accountability for clinical quality of the unit through routine surveillance to include, but not be limited to: regulatory compliance readiness, documentation (charting) and clinical aspects review with problem identification and resolution
    • Assumes responsibility for the coordination and facilitation of unit based education related to the nursing quality care (i.e., Core Measures, Hospital Acquired Conditions, clinical documentation, etc.)
    • Responsible for: day to day coaching and mentoring of the staff relative to the Assistant Nurse Manager role; being a role model, real-time feedback and counseling; and providing feedback to the Nurse Manager.
    • Special projects as delegated
