About the St. Vincent Resource Pool RN Role

As a Resource Pool RN at St. Vincent Hospital, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining safe staffing and high‑quality care by floating to areas of greatest need. Nurses in this role support coverage across days, nights, weekends, and holidays, ensuring continuity of care for our patients.

Resource Pool RNs receive a 10% float differential in recognition of their flexibility, clinical skill, and ability to adapt quickly to varying patient populations and workflows.

Nurses will initially start in the Medical‑Surgical Resource Pool, with exciting opportunities for cross‑training into specialty departments as they grow within the role. You’ll gain broad clinical exposure while working alongside experienced interdisciplinary teams in a supportive, mission‑driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence‑based nursing care across inpatient units
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care
  • Adapt quickly to different units, patient populations, and acuity levels
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, care managers, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Continuously monitor, document, and evaluate patient progress and outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with regulatory standards
  • Educate patients and families to promote recovery, understanding, and safe transitions of care
  • Uphold professional, ethical, and organizational standards of nursing practice

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current RN license in the state of practice
  • Compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of start
  • Minimum of 1 year of Registered Nurse experience
  • Willingness and ability to float across multiple units at St. Vincent Hospital
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (degree verified)
  • Strong adaptability, critical‑thinking, and communication skills
  • Experience in Medical‑Surgical nursing and/or multiple clinical areas
  • Interest in professional development and cross‑training into specialty units

Compensation & Schedule:

  • Full‑time Resource Pool positions available
  • 10% Float Differential applied to all hours worked
  • Coverage includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Opportunity for skill advancement and specialty cross‑training over time

* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required as of the job description's last update on 4/27/2025. Employees hired or promoted prior to this date will be held to the minimum requirements that were in place at the time of their promotion or hire.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
