RESPONSIBILITIES
Assess patients before imaging and invasive procedures, obtain nursing histories, start IVs, administer medications and contrast, and monitor patient status throughout care.
Provide conscious/procedural sedation, monitor vital signs and cardiac rhythms, recognize changes in patient condition, and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
Assist radiologists during sterile and invasive procedures, ensure accurate documentation, obtain informed consents, and coordinate follow-up care for inpatient and outpatient procedures.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, high-quality, patient-centered care and continuity of services.
Support departmental quality assurance, maintain equipment and medication oversight, promote radiation safety, and assist with policy development and departmental operations.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
Current Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license with ACLS certification; BLS certification required and maintained annually.
Minimum of two years of recent clinical nursing experience.
Procedural sedation certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification and demonstrate proficiency within six months of hire.
Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
Ability to provide compassionate care to patients across the lifespan, from neonates through geriatrics.
Commitment to maintaining continuing education requirements and compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and radiation safety practices.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely, stand and walk for extended periods, and frequently stoop, bend, and sit as required throughout the workday.
ENVIRONMENT
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. This position is primarily performed indoors in a fast-paced Diagnostic Imaging department, with work schedules that may vary based on patient and departmental needs. The Imaging Nurse works closely with radiologists, physicians, nurses, patients, and families in a collaborative, patient-focused environment. This role includes exposure to infectious diseases, radiation-controlled areas, patient-handling activities, slips, falls, and musculoskeletal strain, and requires strict adherence to safety and infection-prevention protocols.
