Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Educator

The CVOR Educator works collaboratively with Operating Room Professional Development Specialists to deliver and support the Periop 101 program. In addition, the educator partners with perioperative nursing and physician leadership to identify professional development needs for CVOR nursing and surgical technologist staff.

The CVOR Educator plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates educational strategies to ensure effective onboarding, competency validation, ongoing professional development, and preceptor development. This role supports the delivery of high-quality patient care by fostering clinical excellence, lifelong learning, and adherence to evidence-based perioperative practices.


Responsibilities
  1. Designs and develops centralized orientation programs, and identifies and develops adjunct faculty to deliver content.
  2. Responsible for staff development and competency in application of the nursing process and performance of critical thinking and clinical skills for that population.
  3. Engages regularly with interprofessional team in huddles, interdisciplinary rounds, and other forums to facilitate assessment and identification of educational needs.
  4. Performs needs assessment, develops, designs, implements and evaluates evidenced based educational materials utilizing principles of instructional design for adult learners.
  5. Facilitates ongoing educational initiatives including nursing orientation, preceptor education and other unit level and organizational learning initiatives.
  6. Consultant to the Nursing Education enterprise including but not limited to the development, implementation and evaluation of organizational competencies and regulatory practice requirements.
  7. Promotes understanding of best practices in education among clinical nurses, clinical supervisors and other leaders to empower these individuals to become education champions and engage nurses in supporting each other’s learning and clinical practice.
  8. Works collaboratively with OR professional development specialists to instruct periop 101
  9. Collaborates with periop nursing and physician leadership to identify areas of professional development for CVOR nursing and technologist staff
  10. Coordinates experienced and post-periop 101 orientation of CVOR RNs and CSTs
  11. Evaluates orientation and professional development curricula via multiple methods to ensure quality and effectiveness
  12. Assists clinically at the elbow of RNs and technologists as needed to provide clinical education and development
  13. Consults to regional and system initiatives as needed.
  14. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) required.
  • Certified in specialty or completed within the first 18 months of hire.
  • 2 years of education or professional development preferred.
  • 3 years of clinical experience in identified specialty.
  • Excellent informatics, verbal and written communications skills desired.
  • Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience a must.

Required Licensure/Certifications

- Licensed Registered Nurse with NH eligibility - Current BLS or ACLS Certification.
