This unit also specializes with patients who have pneumonia, chronic pulmonary disease (COPD), viral respiratory illnesses, renal failure, stroke, and post-surgical recovery.
Summary:
Obtains histories, performs exams, evaluates findings, provides patient/family education and counseling, and makes recommendation for health management plan for spine center patients.Responsibilities:
1. Obtains histories for patients (adult and geriatric) which have implications for treatment of the disease processes for which the patients are being seen.
2. Orders and/or performs, evaluates, interprets and integrates findings of diagnostic tests and procedures to formulate health management plan.
3. Performs a complete or problem focused physical examination for patients from adults to geriatrics.
4. Evaluates and makes recommendations for patient/family health management plan with full consideration of patient safety needs under the direction of the supervising physician. Provides patient/family education and counseling with full consideration of patient safety needs under the direction of the supervising physician.
5. Maintains patients' medical records according to established standards and documents in a systematic, accurate and succinct format. Reviews records with supervisory physician on a routine basis.
6. Discusses patient care needs with physician and/or other health professionals when appropriate. Refers patients to physician or to specialized healthcare resources for consultation/treatment as appropriate.
7. Participates in continuing education and/or continuing medical education as required by licensing body and medical staff bylaws.
8. Prescribes medication as permitted by the N.C. Board of Medical Examiners and/or the N.C. Board of Nursing. Prescribes any necessary drugs under the direction of the supervision physician and in accordance to the Rex PA policy.
9. Carry out standing orders or other orders delineated by the supervising physician for specific patients. Provides assistance to the physician(s) in the operating room and post-operative areas.

Education Requirements:
● Requires graduation from a Physician Assistant program approved by the NC Board of Medical Examiners and """"approved to practice medical acts"""" based on education and experience by the Board of Medical Examiners; OR licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Board of Nursing and graduation from a Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the NC Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and """"approved to practice medical acts"""" based on education and experience by the Joint Subcommittee.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Must have BCLS, and NC PA/NP Licensure.
● PA NC LIC;ACLS;BCLS
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Prefer to at least four years in Neurosurgery, Spine Care and or Pain Management. Prefer experience with rounding on inpatients to ensure optimal care and aiding patients in navigating the medical system and experience with tracking patient metrics.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
