Job Overview:
The Radiation Oncology Nurse Coordinator is a professional Registered Nurse who serves as a central pillar of patient care within the radiation oncology setting. This role carries clinical responsibility for a defined caseload of patients, ensuring seamless coordination across the continuum of care.
Working in close collaboration with the physician and multidisciplinary team, the Nurse Coordinator delivers compassionate, patient-centered care while guiding patients and families through complex treatment journeys with clarity, education, and support.
The radiation oncology department will be moving to the new state of the art Melchiorre Cancer Center located on the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center Campus. This state-of-the-art facility will feature the entire oncology service line in one building offering patient centric care to our community. The radiation oncology department will have 4 linear accelerators including Varian TrueBeams and an Elekta Unity MR Linac. The clinic will have a dedicated brachytherapy suite, and 2 radiopharmaceutical procedure rooms. Qualifications:
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) credential preferred
Strong clinical assessment, care coordination, and patient education skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced environment
Essential Functions:
Assume clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of radiation oncology patients
Collaborate with physicians and care teams to develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans
Assess patient medical history, current condition, and ongoing treatment needs
Establish, track, and evaluate patient and family goals and outcomes
Coordinate and oversee all aspects of outpatient care delivery to ensure continuity and quality
Provide comprehensive patient and family education, including treatment expectations, symptom management, and home care needs
Identify and respond to age-specific needs across the lifespan, including pediatric, adolescent/young adult, adult, and geriatric populations
Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans in collaboration with the clinical team
Serve as a key point of contact for patients, families, and interdisciplinary partners
