Job Requirements

Position Summary

The Wound/Ostomy nurse is a registered nurse who has demonstrated expertise, depth of knowledge, competence, and skills in the practice of wound and/or ostomy care. This role requires collaboration with clients, nursing staff, administration, medical staff, and other members of the healthcare team.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school
  • BSN

Experience

  • Three years of clinical experience

License/Registration/Certifications

  • Licensed to practice nursing in South Carolina
  • Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON)

Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education

• N/A

Preferred Experience

• Five years of clinical experience

Preferred License/Registration/Certifications

• Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN)

  • BLS Certification

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Completes and coordinates patient assessment, providing hands-on expert care
  • Coordinates and implements plans of care
  • Develops and monitors outcomes based on plans of care
  • Develops and presents educational programs and materials to clients and staff to support competent wound and/or ostomy care facility-wide and in the community

• Complies with established policies and procedures

  • Demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing practice and theory

• Assures continuity of care through effective decision making resulting in quality patient care

• Documents all aspects of patient care by following established charting procedure to show the patient's progress or any change in the patient's condition

• Other duties as assigned
