Job Description
Entity/Organization: MUSCP - (MUSC Physicians)
Job Purpose: Full time NP/PA working with the psychiatry team embedded in the Emergency Department to provide psychiatric consults and management of psychiatric patients who present to the MUSC ED, under the supervision of a psychiatrist. Will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and work with a team of ED based psychiatrists as part of the Mental Health ICCE, within the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences.
Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Salaried - Exempt
Hours per week: 14, 10-hour shifts per month with 1 additional 10 hour shift each quarter.
Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: The standard scheduled shifts are: 7AM to 5PM, 1PM to 11PM and 10PM to 8AM with 14 shifts per month required for full-time positions. The weekender APP will work greater than 50% weekends with some nights and holidays required. There are four additional 10-hour shifts built into the schedule per year, one per quarter. This includes coverage of the psychiatry D-POD area as well as the adult EmPATH unit.

Required Minimum Training and Education: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant. Or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, as identified below.

Preferred experience: Minimum of one year of mental health provider experience as an APRN or PA.
Degree of Supervision: Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an PMHNP with the SC Board of Nursing. Requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). If BLS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date. DHEC and DEA license applications must be submitted prior to first day.
Job Duties: Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:
Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
Additional Job Description
Graduation from an approved Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies. Must be licensed in the state of South Carolina, and certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
