Job Description
This clinical position will prioritize patient rounding and assesments with bedside nursing collaboration. Responsibilities include utilizing MEWS scores, prior medical history and admission location information, as well as other indicators for high risk patients, to prioritize assessment. This position evaluates patient care and hospital practices in MUSC inpatient settings to ensure compliance with hospital policies/procedures and evidence-based practices. This role collaborates with other departments to ensure staff, patient and visitor public health safety. This position will respond to any Code Blue and Rapid Response notifications, BAT Alerts, and nurse driven request for clinical evaluation and other indicators as needed or directed. High-risk patients based on clinical indicators, previous critical care admissions/transfers, and PMH will be assessed each shift. This position will also coach real time and provide education to staff regarding appropriate MEWS scores, high-risk indicators, assessments of Code Blue and Rapid Response notifications. Collaboration with clinical staff, including but not limited to, nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Hospitalist Medicine providers, ICU Intensivists and Pulmonologists etc is a necessity in this role, with appropriate communication and education methods
Experience: Previous acute care clinical experience required. Critical Care or ED experience required. Must be able to work under stress.
Licenses/Certificates: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school. Must have active South Carolina RN license. Must be BLS and ACLS certified.
Additional Job Description
Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
