We all go through a lot of effort in preparing ourselves after we graduate from college for us to land that dream job that we all have wanted. We prepare our resume and job application forms in a way that employers may find us more interesting than others and that may somewhat help us get a job sooner than everyone else.
But, after all the troubles of preparing our resumes, we still need to prepare ourselves for interviews that will follow if the company or hospital that we are eyeing on will have interest in us. In this article, we will be tackling some ideas and advice that will help us pass the series of interviews more commonly given by companies/hospitals and some tips on how to be physically, mentally and emotionally ready for those interviews.
In any interview, it is important for applicants to leave a memorable good first impression to the interviewer. These are a few pieces of advice we can give you to prepare yourself for that.
1. Dress professionally- looking professional in an interview will have the interviewer a good first impression on you compared to those that dress casually in an interview. Prepare your clothes beforehand and make sure to wear simple but elegant and professional clothes. Avoid flashy colored or patterned clothes. Also, remember not to show a lot of skin or tattoos to have a more modest look.
2. Attitude is Everything- before being interviewed, the interviewers will already know your stats that are on your resume. No matter what school, or how high your GPAs are, you still need to be trained for at least 6 months before being declared as a regular. Rather than trying to impress your interviewer, it is better to let them know or show them that you are willing to adapt to the work that will be given to you and you know how to solve problems and follow directions in a fast-paced environment. Don’t be the know-it-all kind of guy. A new employee with a bad attitude will never last.
3. Research the facility and the position you are applying for- learn more about the facility where you are applying and the job you are applying for. One of the most common questions being asked in an interview is why you are applying to work in their company, in this research will help you in answering that. Also, it will give you more insights if that company is suitable for you and if it will make your work an enjoyable one.
4. Bring your Credentials- don’t forget to bring a copy of your credentials so that when the interviewer may ask for them, you can provide and show it to them. The type of interview may vary depending on the facility or company you are applying to. You may be interviewed by the Human Resource Representative, or by a panel interview. You may ask in advance for the type of interview so that if you will be interviewed by a panel, you must make sure to bring enough copies of your resume for each interviewer. Lastly, bring a pen and notebook so that you can take down notes or questions during the interview.
5. Arrive early- being early will help you in your interview. You can still relax and compose yourself before being interviewed. Especially if you are being interviewed in a big facility, arriving early will help find the place you will be interviewed at. This will also show the interviewer that you have respect for them.
6. Prepare ahead of time- if you are applying for a specific type of nursing field, always prepare yourself to discuss the various treatments or procedures that are commonly done in that field. This will show the interviewer that you are knowledgeable and will help you land a job in that desired field you are applying for.
These are just a few tips on how to prepare for an interview. But these will surely help you land that job that you are aiming for.
