This is a self-created internship for transitioning to Healthcare, in preparation, during and after Nursing school. The primary goal has been to build a network of clients from which to learn about every aspect of their pathology from them. It has been a mutually beneficial gift to both sides.
- Provide care to select MS, ALS, MG, PD, and/or Stroke clients to learn from them, their Pathologies, their challenges, and considerations.
- Educate and advocate on delirium versus Dementia as well as Palliative/End of life issues.
- Provide as-needed support with Activities of Daily Living: Bed and commode transitions; assess, intervene, and educate on adequate Ins/Outs and fall risks.
- Medicine reconciliation; Assist with hygiene, suprapubic foley care, and healthcare visits.
- Assess and mitigate injury and risks such as limiting the unnecessarily forced standing of a severe fall risk client. Re-work bedtime routine and transition client to overnight condom caths.
- Provide wound care such as wet/dry, burns and incisions.
- Advise clients on interventions to ease family and primary caregiver burnout.
