Job Description Summary Oncology Nurses have the privilege of consistently spending one on one time with patients, developing strong personal relationships with both them and their families. Oncology nurses provide comfort and support throughout the process of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Our nurses collaborate with radiation therapists, resident physician, social workers, dosimetrists, and physicists. MUSC has 3 radiation oncology clinics locations in the Charleston area: Hollings Cancer Center, MUSC Main Hospital, and MUSC Radiation Oncology in Mount Pleasant. These clinics manager and treat patients with complex cancer diagnoses at differing stages. We see patients of all ages, although we predominantly treat adults. Job Description Summary 7 West MedSurg & Surgical Oncology is a high acuity 24 bed adult inpatient unit specializing in gynecology oncology, head/neck oncology and head/neck benign patients. 7 West also provides care for a variety of other medical/surgical patient populations including but not limited to management of behavioral, respiratory, endocrine, GI, and trauma patients. The unit manages patients receiving inpatient chemotherapy, radiation, leech therapy, total parenteral nutrition and enteral nutrition. This unit cares for complex microvascular head and neck flap patients which includes complex wound management, tracheostomy and laryngectomy patient care. The unit also manages palliative and hospice patient populations at varying stages of their disease progression to include aggressive pain management. Job Description Summary 7 West Surgical Oncology is a high-acuity, 24-bed adult inpatient unit specializing in gynecologic and head & neck oncology, as well as benign GYN and ENT patients. We also care for a mix of medical–surgical patients, including respiratory, endocrine, GI, trauma, and behavioral health needs. Our team manages chemotherapy, radiation, TPN, tube feedings, and cares for complex head & neck surgical patients with trachs, laryngectomies, and advanced wound needs. We also support patients throughout the palliative and hospice journey. Staff on 7 West develop strong skills with heparin and insulin drips, PCA/epidural pain management, and various surgical drains.
