Job Overview: Provides specialized orthopedic consultation and care Participates in student, patient, and resident education Section III: Job Qualifications/Education/Training/Certification/Licensure Graduate of an AMA accredited physician assistant program and licensed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners May begin entry level without experience Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Capacity to react to emergencies in a calm and reassured manner Organizational ability Successful of all required orientation programs Work Environment and Hazards: Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable disease and risk of physical injury from lifting patients and operation of equipment Special Physical Demands: Must meet requirements of the ADA (attached) Walks and stands for most of the day Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull and lift, Work Contact Group: All related hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel, physicians, students, residents Section 1: Job-Specific Requirements of Position Enhances professional growth and development through attendance and/or participation in CME programs with at minimum 50 credits in the specialty of orthopedic surgery per CME earning window of the NCCPA, Participates in the education of medical and physician assistant students in the department of orthopedic surgery Participates, under direction and supervision of physician, in delivery of health care services to patients (records progress notes, requests non-invasive and invasive diagnostic studies, places and executes orders with supervision of attending physician and records detailed narrative case and discharge summaries) Performs routine therapeutic and diagnostic procedures which have been ordered, prescribed, or directed by supervising physician or department policy or protocol, and may include administering therapeutic and diagnostic injections and aspirations, administering medications, and requesting and interpreting diagnostic studies Provides patient counseling and patient education service at the direction of the supervising physician, facilitates referral of patients to hospital and outpatient services as appropriate Sutures and cares for wounds, removes sutures and staples, applies and changes dressings and negative pressure wound therapy per department protocol and under the direction of supervising physician Apply and remove splints and casts commensurate with level of experience Assist with the education of Department of Orthopedic Surgery residents and students throughout training Assist with the education of physician assistant students rotating in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery Assist with the education and orientation of Physician Assistant students rotating in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery Perform compartment pressure measurements commensurate with level of experience Perform intraarticular injections and hematoma blocks commensurate with level of experience Perform joint and fracture reductions commensurate with level of experience Additional Information: Benefits and Perks: At RWJBarnabasHealth, our market-competitive Total Rewards package provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees’ physical, emotional, social, and financial health.
