The RWJBarnabas Health New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) Residency program is a one-year program that provides New Graduate RNs with a safe, caring, supportive and robust learning environment for a new graduate nurse to gain clinical competency and achieve transition from student to professional practice.
Residency programs available in the following specialties: Medical/Surgical (includes Telemetry), Oncology (Surgical, Bone Marrow Transplant), Cardiac (Cardio Prog Care, Post Coronary Care) Post Intensive Care (Post Intensive Care I,II,III), Renal Transplant , Neurological Care Unit, Respiratory Care
Residency Program includes:
Preceptor and relationship-guided new graduate transition program
Continuing education and ongoing enhancement of professional development
Specialty specific Foundational Courses developed to reflect scope and standards of practice.
Application of professional accountability and ethical practice is inherent in the role of the registered nurse
Recognition of the effects of skilled nursing practice on patient safety, quality and satisfaction.
Self-care focuses on maintaining a safe and fulfilling nursing practice for both the nurse and the patient.
Mentorship to support the new graduate nurse though their first year of practice and beyond.
Flexibility to attend all orientation and program required educational courses as determined by the program.
Leadership and the desire to become involved in the professional practice journey.
Ability to attend focus groups and additional learning requirements for practice achievement.
Qualifications:
Required:
ASN or Nursing Diploma
Strong communication and organizational skills
Proficient computer skills
Certifications and Licenses Required:
BLS through American Heart Association upon hire
ACLS Certification within 6 months of start date
Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License or active Compact Registered Nurse License with New Jersey endorsement
Scheduling Requirements:
Day Shift, 36 hours per week, 7a-7:30p
Night Shift, 36 hours per week, 7p-7:30a
Monday – Friday, every other weekend and holiday rotation
Essential Functions:
The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
The Registered Nurse assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others of the patient care team by communication with and utilizing resource persons and programs available.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.
The Registered Nurse is an individual practitioner and the interdisciplinary team manager, utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient’s needs.
