Provides nursing care to sexual assault patients.


Responsibilities
  1. Offers kit collection options to the patient and performs a complete medical/forensic examination. Documents support as to why a step/action was not completed.
  2. Performs and documents the medical/forensic examination on the paper chart.
  3. Documents detailed injuries with support of photography after written consent from patient/legal guardian.
  4. Ensures the Emergency Physician completes a medical screening exam.
  5. Administers prophylactic medications.
  6. Maintains chain of custody for each sexual assault exam.
  7. Coordinates care of agencies involved in assisting the sexual assault patient and coordinates referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up.
  8. Provides testimony as a fact witness when subpoenaed and coordinates with attorneys during the judicial process. Maintains open communication with Risk Management during judicial process proceedings.
  9. Maintains equipment in proper working condition and exercises fiscal responsibility of unit’s resources.
  10. Completes suspect exams upon receiving a court-ordered warrant.
  11. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
  • Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Completion of approved “Sexual Assault Examiner Training” course required.

Required Licensure/Certifications

- Licensed Registered Nurse in New Hampshire required. - Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required. - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training upon hire.
