Responsibilities Responsible for the all-around healthcare needs of patients who are under the care management of the faculty members on an as needed basis. Acts as liaison between the MDs, the patients (including the family and staff members), schedulers, clinic staff and UCLA and non-UCLA physicians involved with the patients' healthcare. Provides up-to-date patient status reporting to the physicians and nurse supervisor by presenting laboratory or procedural results either in written or verbal form as well as conveying information from patients. Under minimal supervision, function primarily as a scrub and/or circulating nurse within the surgery center. Administrative and teaching responsibilities to be performed as necessary, including inventory, instrument set-ups and chart reviews. Implement appropriate nursing interventions on a consistent basis, relevant to an operating room. Function as a member of a team. Inherent duties include, but are not limited to, the proper care of instrumentation and equipment, utilization of all safety measures and the accurate completion of all documentation. Performs clinical nursing duties that includes but not limited to assisting physicians in performing procedures/surgeries in the operating room, administering medications and, monitoring vital signs and provide health education, procedure/surgery instruction/information to patients and families. Qualifications Required: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with BSN or MSN required CA RN License American Heart Association BLS American Heart Association Advanced Care Life Support Greater than 6 months nursing experience Maintains competencies to function in the RN role within specific area. (Ex. OR circulator/scrub, identification, counting and care of instrumentation and sponges, skin prep of surgical site, positioning). Assesses, anticipates and implements appropriate care throughout the surgical process. Maintains competencies in conscious sedation administration and monitoring of sedated patient, including airway protection, assessment and support of sedated patients Protect sedated and anesthetized patients by identifying safety hazards such as electrical equipment, pressure points, and by minimizing patient exposure to respect privacy and maintain body temperature Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, yet function as a team Ability to interpret, adapt and apply professional nursing theory principles and standards to assigned area Ability to complete a Nursing physical assessment Skill in developing a plan of care including setting goals, monitoring and documenting progress Ability to implement interventions that are pertinent to goals established in the plan of care Ability to evaluate the effective of interventions toward the attainment of established goals and to recognize the need to reassess or reset goal parameters Ability to delegate tasks in a management style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork Knowledge base to provide education to patients, families, and other staff regarding clinical and patient care issues UCLA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
