The strategic goal of the Spine Program is to position Casa Colina as the premier, regional referral source for complex spine problems and to provide expert advice for the care of neck and back pain. The Coordinator of the Spine Services Line will serve as the day-to-day lead within the Spine Program and supervise and engage in the development, implementation, and organization of the program. He/she is responsible for all program management which includes: report generation and review, process improvement, outcome data oversite management, patient satisfaction, patient care coordination and administrative activities.
The Spine Service Line Coordinator will be the key professional who handles consumer inquires related to back and neck problems. The will include: responding to inquiries about back and neck pain from consumers and tracking this information in a database system, provide marketing support, provide appropriate protocols, assess patients’ needs and provide medical advice based on clinical experience, judgment and computerized clinical protocols. Coordinator will be available to be the direct contact for patients in the Spine Center Program. This position will also be responsible for promotional efforts such as: handling direct mail letters to physicians, case managers, rehab nurses, insurance adjusters, large employers; and managed care contracts and health insurance companies across the region;
Responsible for coordinating spine patients through the various levels of spine program. Position will be the liaison between physicians, therapists, other physician specialists and patients.
Assists in patient case management to speed return to work and activity. This function requires a patient advocate role, ensuring ease of patient’s experience through the complete medical and rehabilitation continuum of care at Casa Colina Hospital.
Will maintain a database of managed care organizations, risk managers, case managers, rehab nurses, human resource managers, physician and other current and potential referral sources.
Will network for the Spine Program which may include providing educational lunches to case managers and other referral sources to ensure positive business referral relationships.
Direct patient care responsibilities will be determined based on census and as appropriate based on the professional designation of the Spine Service Line Coordinator.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Licensed by Nursing Board, Department of Consumer Affairs, State of California.
Graduate from accredited school of nursing.
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Minimum two (2) years clinical experience as an RN in an acute care setting required.
Prefer (1) Year of experience in advanced training in spine.
Demonstrated experience in education and program development.
Demonstrated effectiveness in program management, patient teaching and education in a formal and informal setting.
Experience with neurospine or othrospine services is a plus.
Experience in working with surgeons and other physician specialties as appropriate; demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with physicians, staff and patients; experience in process improvement and achieving results; experience in leading a team, and experience in gathering and analyzing data.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.).
Should have exemplary oral and written communication and assessment skills. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Knowledge of regulatory standards including CMS and TJC required
Understanding of insurance payors a plus.
