Position Summary of Duties : Clinical responsibilities include following physician’s orders for patient medical care, coordination, and clerical support functions. These support functions will include but not limited to: Accompanying patients to exam rooms, preparing patients for exams, performing and documenting vital signs, assisting with office procedures, preparing and administering medications with physician’s authorization, and drawing blood. Providing patient education with regards to office policies, medications, and management of disease, home treatments, and special diets. Retrieval of lab and x-ray reports, calling in prescriptions, telephone triage, obtaining referrals and authorizations, completing medical forms O rdering medical and office supplies, stocking exam rooms, cleaning rooms, cleaning instruments, disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards Performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation and other front office duties as assigned. Adherence to all HIPAA guidelines / regulations Incumbents recognize that physician office team members cross over to assist in all duties assigned to help any team member with tasks for which they have the knowledge and competency to assist with when needed Outpatient surgical responsibilities include assisting the surgeon during surgical procedures by assessing, planning, and implementing nursing interventions before, during, and after surgery based on AORN (Association of peri-Operative Registered Nursing) guidelines. These support functions are performed both inside and outside of the sterile field and include but not limited to: Coordination of pre-op workup including patient education Contacting patients prior to procedure to review pre-op checklist and documenting communications Arrive to the OR / procedure room one hour prior to scheduled procedure to prepare patient cases OR set-up including the selection and placement of supplies, materials, dressings, packages, etc. Managing patient charts including the verification of patient histories and informed consents Managing / pulling multiple medications (up to 3-4 per procedure) from Pyxis system Managing post-operative order / prescriptions and corroborating documentation for coding / billing Scrubbing into cases and assisting surgeon as first assist. Specific responsibilities during procedures include, but are not limited to, assisting with suction / hemostasis, retraction, maintaining / achieving fracture reductions & tendon injuries, hardware placement, closing surgical wounds, and applying surgical dressings / splints / & slings. Assisting patient / family with post-procedure instructions Reviews / restocks all supply inventories for upcoming procedures QUALIFICATIONS Experience : Prior clinical experience in a physician office setting preferred Prior experience in outpatient surgery preferred Education : Associates degree in nursing (ADN) required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Licensure/Certification : Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the SC LLR required. American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the Tidelands Health (TH) Organizational Development Department within 30 calendar days of hire date. Exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Department are approved on a case by case basis. BLS Recertification is required every two (2) years. ACLS preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities : General proficient PC skills and computer knowledge required. Phlebotomy skills and experience preferred. Excellent communication skills and ability to multi-task required.
