Position Summary: The Registered Nurse in the Cardiovascular Acute Unit (CV Acute), under general supervision, conducts patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, implements and evaluates care according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs. Collaborates with health care team members in the delivery of medical-surgical level care

The 21-bed CV Acute Unit was established at CHLA in 2011. About 900 patients are admitted each year, including children with the most complex diseases of the heart. CV Acute is specialized in the treatment of heart disease (congenital or acquired) in children and assisting families to transition their care from the hospital to the home. We provide advanced treatment for all heart disorders and defects affecting children from neonate to young adult which can include ventricular assist devices, Bi-PAP/CPAP support, and IV vasoactive medications. It’s provider coverage is staffed by Hospital Medicine and CT Surgery Nurse Practitioners who are located within the Heart Institute. CV Acute is staffed with RNs and Care Partners who provide direct patient care on a 24 hour basis.

Minimum Qualifications: 1 year of RN experience with at least 1 year of acute/inpatient experience. Ability to assess effectiveness of patient care; maintain a calm demeanor and assist in crises and emergencies; prioritize tasks for complex patient care; communicate tactfully, professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing.

Education/Licensure/Certifications: BSN required. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California and American Heart Association BLS and PALS certification required.
