***Residency Program to begin early September***

Position Summary

Under the leadership of the department director, assistant director, nursing supervisor, and charge nurse the registered nurse provides hands-on care to patients, practicing in an evidence-based manner, within the Scope of Practice of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The nurse performs all steps of the nursing process including assessing patients, interpreting data, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. Important dimensions of this position consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations, and broad nursing knowledge.

The registered nurse trainee completes a 16-week critical care training program, which includes didactic and clinical training. Under the supervision of a preceptor the nurse trainee will care for patients who are suffering from severe, acute medical conditions or illnesses.

Experience

• At least one year of experience in an acute care setting. Experience in other critical care settings such as ER, Step Down, Progressive Care or another critical care setting (preferred).
• Critical thinking, sharp assessment skills, quick decision-making ability, effective communication, and the ability to work under pressure (required).

Education

Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment of patients requiring the applicable skill, and must complete and pass all annual competencies.

Licensure/Certifications

• State of CA RN license required
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS (required).
• American Heart Association Provider ACLS certifications must be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider PALS certification to be completed within 6 months of hire or before independent assignment of pediatric patients.
