Schedule/Status: 8:00-5:30 PartTime Standard Hours/Week: 24 General Description: Under the general supervision of the Perioperative Manager and the direct supervision of the Patient Care Clinical Coordinator, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of patient care for the patient before, during, and after operative and other invasive and non-invasive procedures.  In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, the RN assesses the patient and plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the plan of care.  The staff nurse monitors the plan to insure quality, appropriateness, timeliness and effectiveness of services rendered. Key Requirements: Performs admission assessments and reassessements, initiates appropriate plan of care, provides patient/family education, emotional and physical support, processes and/or initiates Physicians’ orders, inserts intravenous access lines as indicated, administers medications and monitors patient response utilizing critical thinking skills.* Performs and documents direct individualized post surgery/procedure nursing care of the perioperative patient following administration of anesthetic agents or moderate sedation. Demonstrates appropriate recognition, intervention and treatment of anesthetic and/or surgical or procedural emergencies to include stabilization of vital signs, airway management, fluid and electrolyte balance, ventilation assistance and circulatory system management. Discharges/transports the stabilized patient as appropriate assuring a seamless transition of care process by providing report and communicating specific patient needs to areas within the perioperative visit and/or to the nursing units (when applicable) prior to transfer* Sets up and/or assists with special procedures within the perioperative setting to include: blood transfusions, chemotherapy, pain management procedures, IV therapy, chest tube insertion, and other procedures as requested. *  Demonstrates teamwork by maintaining cross training competencies to provide nursing care in specified areas within the perioperative unit.  Monitors the patient during procedures requiring moderate sedation when requested.* Communicates, at an appropriate level of understanding, with the family/care giver/ significant other regarding the patient’s progress and condition throughout the perioperative visit.  Provides clear concise communication with physicians and maintains a positive professional relationship. Demonstrates appropriate use of the Pyxis automated medication dispensing system including weekly inventory procedure. Communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, patients, families, and other health care team members.  Includes the person/family to actively participate in face-to-face bedside handoff/handover report; communicates in SBAR format for all handoff/handover reports and changes in patient’s status to the Care Provider/physician,  Clinical Coordinator or Charge Nurse. Follows the chain of command. Provides a safe clean patient environment by removing faulty equipment from service, reporting/entering repair requests in a timely manner and decontaminating patient care equipment after each use. Participates in the emergency PACU support call rotation and responds within 45 minutes of notification.* Participates in Inter/Intra departmental committees for communication and ongoing improvement of patient care processes where requested.  Participates in Quality Monitoring/Performance Improvement  Requirements: Formal Education Associate's Degree, ADN or other Two Year College equivalent required.  Major(s) required.  Accredited R.N.
