Job Description


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Perinatal Assistant (0.9 FTE, Nght Shift) to work in the Multi Campus OB Float Pool in Medical-Surgical at various Swedish Campuses.

Responsible for supporting the entire patient care team, including service partners, in delivering services and care, as directed, to patients within scope of licensure or training.

In this position you will:

  • Works under supervision of the RN to provide care and service to patients and their families. Receives direction from the RN for delegation of tasks.
  • Works to manage the cost of supplies as directed, and charges for supplies used.
  • Transports mothers and newborns as directed.
  • Enters, transfers, and discharges patients from electronic monitoring computer systems. e.g. TraceVue, Accucheck & Nurse Call.
  • Communicates & documents actions and care provided timely, accurately, legibly, and on appropriate documentation forms.
  • Provides patient care as directed by team RN and within certification scope. Duties performed include, but not limited to: making/changing beds, assisting with ADL’s, vital signs, urinary catheter removal, ambulation assistance, assisting women to the bathroom, assisting women with using a bedpan, assisting with pericare, assisting the new mother with feeding infant, assisting parents with infant care, bathing mothers and newborns, performing chemstrip functions for mothers and newborns, and conducting oximetry tests.
  • Responsible for supply management: restocks supplies after use, maintains appropriate core stocking levels, works with manager/designee to improve unit and individual routines to assure adequate room supply without excess or depletion. Notifies nurse manager and/or designee and makes recommendation for par level adjustments.
  • Responsible to set up and maintain the neatness of patient rooms. Cleans instruments and equipment as directed.
  • Monitors and performs desk functions as directed, including transcribing of orders. Enters orders into the computer as directed. Prints results from the computer and provides these data to the nurse.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Current Washington State certification as a Nursing Assistant Certified.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required at time of hire from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).
  • Washington State Medical Assistant - Registered will be required with Swedish Medical Center facility application completed within 7 days of hire. Must obtain active license within 60 days of hire. Employee will not be authorized to practice independently for Point of Care until registration is obtained.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year Experience in a Nursing Assistant role. Position is fitting for healthcare assistants and nursing assistants.
