Registered Nurse

Assumes responsibilities and assignments for the oversight of the administration of medication to persons served in the CILA residences. Train non-licensed CILA staff to administer medications and provide self-administration of medication training to individuals who reside in the CILA homes. Nursing duties will include case coordination, treatment planning, patient assessment and education, crisis intervention and discharge planning.

Employee will adhere to the Memorial Health (MH) Code of Conduct, the MH Ethics and Corporate Compliance Plan, MBHC policies and procedures, as well as performance standards established by the governing board/administration and accrediting bodies.

Education:

Successfully completed the DHS Nurse-Trainer Training Program.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Registered Nurse with current State of IL license.

Experience:

Two years of professional nursing clinical experience within the last 5 years preferably in the field of developmental disabilities.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must complete a fingerprint background check and drug screen. Must have valid IL Driver’s License, clean driving record and proof of automobile insurance.

Direct Clinical Services

• Provide DHS-approved medication administration training to non-licensed CILA staff at time of hire, evaluate competency and authorize staff to administer medications.
• Provide specific additional competency-based training and assessment as deemed necessary whenever a change of medication or dosage occurs or a new individual that requires medication enters the LCDR’s CILA program.
• Re-evaluate staff competency at least annually or more frequently as needed to ensure continued competency of the authorized direct care staff to administer medication.
• Administer medication or other treatments when needed or no authorized CILA staff person is available.
• Check-in monthly medications and compare with PO sheet and MAR. Update PO sheet and MAR as needed with new medication orders.
• Reviews diagnostic testing results as assigned, implementing prescribed follow-up on any abnormal results.
• Review all doctor appointments each month and initial consultation report.
• Routinely assess chronic conditions.
• Check medication storage closet monthly for any expired/unused medications and dispose of them appropriately as needed.
• Maintain an inventory and record of use of any controlled substances
• Complete monthly and annual nursing notes.
• Complete annual assessment of health status and SAMA for each resident and quarterly SAMA as applicable.
• Provide 24-hour on call service to evaluate illness, injury or medication errors as needed.
• Participates in individual service plan development, implementation, and review.
• Review and follow-up on any Medication Error Reports or Adverse Drug Reaction Reports occurring in the CILA.
• Complete Quality Assurance Medication Reviews at least quarterly.
• Serve as a member of the LCDR Behavior Management Committee.

Training Activities/Professional Growth

• Supervisor and employee mutually identify professional goals that will enhance job related skills.
• Participates in ongoing agency meetings, committees, and special projects to enhance professional expertise.
• Participates in required staff meetings and in-service meetings to keep abreast of agency policy and administrative procedures, meet requirements for continuing education, and upgrade professional knowledge.
• Obtains and maintains CPR and First Aid certification.
• Maintain IL RN Licensure
• Completes all mandatory education requirements by specified deadlines.

Job Relationships

• In absence of immediate supervisor, access Medical Director or Site Administrator for clinical supervision.
• Communicates directly to designated supervisor for clarification of administrative policy, program evaluation to promote a professional working environment and effective service delivery system.
• Adheres to MH/MBH Behavioral Standards.
