Under the general supervision of the Director of Perioperative Services and the direct supervision of the Surgery Clinic al Coordinator, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of patient care for the patient before, during, and after operative and other invasive and noninvasive procedures. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary tea m, the RN assesses, plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the plan of care. The staff nurse monitors the plan to insure qua lit y, appropriateness, timeliness and effectiveness of services rendered.
Performs direct nursing care of the intra-operative patient to meet individualized needs and document s appropriately. Assists the surgeon and anesthesiologist to facilitate positive patient outcomes utilizing critical thinking skills. Creates and monitors the sterile field, monitors instrument and sponge count and anticipates case specific needs. *
Performs pre-o p assessment for individualization of patient care, validates surgical consent and surgical site, prepares the patient in the pre-op phase by providing appropriate patient and family education, emotional and physical s up port, and processing physician’s orders.
Plans the patient care to be provided, gathers supplies and equipment and prepares the OR suite for scheduled and unscheduled surgery. Demonstrates appropriate use of sup plies and equipment.*
Assists with special procedures and monitors the patient in the perioperative setting to include insertion of chest tubes, central lines, arteria l lines, and other procedures as requested. *
Demonstrates appropriate use of Pyxis automated medication dispensing system. Administers medications as prescribed and monitors response. Participates in the emergency call rotation and responds within 20 minutes.*
Transports the patient to the post anesthesia care area. Assure s the transition of care process is seamless by providing report to the PACU nurse and communicating equipment needs prior to transfer. *
Performs scrub duties as requested and monitors the patient during local procedures and/or those requiring moderate sedation.
Provides for regular communication with family/significant others regarding the patient's progress and condition.*
Coordinates the progress of case throughput of the assigned room by communication with surgeons, anesthesiologist and other healthcare workers.
Provides for efficient utilization of resources and equipment as demonstrated by appropriate supply use and submission of charges, monitoring supply levels and reporting deficiencies, and reporting/entering equipment repair requests in a timely manner.
Participates in Quality Monitoring/ Performance Improvement. 12. Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area.
Performs similar or related duties, as assigned
Associate's Degree, AON or other Two Year College equivalent require d. Major (s) required. Accredited R.N. Education required.
Required Licenses and Certifications;
State of Florida Registered Nurse (RN) active license
Basic Life Saving (BCLS) certification (or within 90 days of employment)
ACLS (within 6 months of employment)
