Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Nurse Manager day shift to serve as a remarkable leader of the healthcare team within our large L&D and High Risk Maternity/OB unit in Charlotte, NC. You’ll serve as a true leader of the healthcare team by establishing an authentic, personalized relationship with your Assistant Nurse Managers and care team while being a support system within the unit. This position will be responsible for a 20 L&D inpatient beds and 16 Special Maternity inpatient beds and averages 500 births per month. At the heart of everything we do, you’ll find dynamic team members working together to deliver remarkable patient experiences.

The Nurse Manager for the Labor & Delivery unit will be a Registered Nurse with strong L&D and management experience.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years clinical RN experience in an labor and delivery setting required.
  • Licensure/certification/registration: Current RN licensure in appropriate state required. BLS required. Prior demonstrated leadership preferred.
  • Additional skills required: Understands and applies: current and future trends/practice in area of responsibility; regulatory and governing standards, policies and procedures; information systems and software used in area of responsibility; equipment used in performing assigned duties; application of safety and infection control policies and procedures; skills in interviewing and selection process; understanding of budgeting, staffing, payroll and purchasing processes; implementation of competency, feedback, development and progressive discipline processes; teambuilding, conflict management, and interpersonal relationship skills; principles of adult learning and teaching methods/models; decision making, project leadership and consultation, delegation and communication skills; customer needs and expectations and knowledge for improvement to exceed customer expectations; principles of change management.
  • Additional skills preferred: Board certification in area of practice.

Promotes collegial relationships with physicians and other professional groups. Removes barriers for staff to assure optimal patient safety and satisfaction. Meets and maintains requirements of a Registered Nurse. Develops and implements plan for self-development in collaboration with the Director of Nursing or Nurse Executive.

Develops and implements an education plan for areas of responsibility annually in collaboration with Nursing Practice Education and Research. Monitors and improves staff satisfaction through recruitment and retention initiatives.

Regularly makes the services standards a part of their dialogue when rounding with the team. Ensures team members and self respond to customers in a timely manner. Monitors customer satisfaction scores and makes changes for improvement. Works with team members to develop or improve processes to assure a Remarkable Patient Experience. Human Resources and Organizational Development: Provides ongoing and annual feedback to team members on performance through mentoring and coaching staff in developing plans to achieve personal career goals. Financial Management: Manages positions within the department to achieve quality and productivity and meet budget. Develops the annual operations and capital budgets. Manages the department budget (measures, monitors, and balances human and material resources). Provides input for strategic planning for system/facility and community.
