Description:

Performs clerical/registration functions to aid in the efficient operation of the unit. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to interact with pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Must be computer proficient and work in an efficient and organized manner. Performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to other clerical duties.

Unit Support

  • Maintains workplace and files in orderly, logical, secure and readily accessible manner.
  • Performs duties as assigned by Charge Nurse or Department Director
  • Remains at work area to be available when needed.
  • Provides phone support.
  • Maintains appropriate level of office supplies/forms and stocks area as needed.
  • Utilizes time efficiently.
  • Maintains orderly and organized workplace
  • Observes patient confidentiality.
  • Performs housekeeping duties at request of charge nurse or Department Director

Patient Record/Chart Activities

  • Transcribes physician's and nursing orders. completing all order entry procedures, necessary forms, requisitions and communications necessary to implement orders.
  • Initiates and maintains kardex information and other unit records.
  • Ensures completeness and accuracy of data entry, patient charts etc.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to enter orders, charges and other data in the Meditech System.
  • Able to correctly assemble and tear down patient charts.
  • Demonstrates ability to correctly and efficiently perform patient registration.
  • No wrong patient errors in order entry, assembling chart information etc.

Phone etiquette

  • Displays professional manner.
  • Answers calls in timely fashion, placing calls on hold, not leaving calls unanswered
  • No complaints from patients, family, physicians, offices, other staff.
  • Limits personal phone calls to increase productivity satisfaction opportunities.

Communication

  • Communicates effectively with team members.
  • Communicates all pertinent patient care information and general information in timely fashion to appropriate person(s).
  • Maintains professional telephone etiquette..
  • Notifies charge nurse or Department Director promptly with patient/family complaints or concerns.
  • Notifies charge nurse of extended patient wait times.

Personal Growth

  • Assumes responsibility for own personal education and developmental needs.
  • Provides suggestions/opportunities to improve efficiencies and streamlining of process.
  • Participates in unit staff satisfaction projects.
  • Provides suggestions/initiatives to increase patient satisfaction opportunities.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Demonstrates positive, congenial attitude at work.
  • Minimizes absences and other behaviors disruptive to the staff schedule.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Attends in-services as required or requested by Department Director.

Reception Duties

  • Receives, greets and directs patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital staff arriving on or calling the patient care unit.
  • Available and knowledgeable of patient location, and is able to provide information and direction regarding the same.
