The Transplant/Leukemia Clinical Coordinator is a professional with working knowledge of hematologic malignancies, leukemia treatment, bone marrow/peripheral blood stem cell transplantation and related protocols and research. This professional is responsible for the coordination of all clinical activities relating to the Bone Marrow Transplant and Leukemia Program. Works with adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of hematologic malignancies and bone marrow transplant to facilitate the planning, organization and workflow of Bone Marrow Transplant and Leukemia activities.
- Professionally communicates with referring physicians to facilitate the arrangement of new patient consults with the consult team- provides oversight to insure that patients are appropriately scheduled. Provides the consulting physician with required information to perform a complete consult.
- Provides patients and family with up to date educational information regarding the transplant and/or leukemia process.
- Plans and communicates all pre- bone marrow transplant/Leukemia diagnostic testing, education and initiation of treatment. Acts as a liaison to entire transplant and/or Leukemia team regarding patients’ treatment plan as outlined by physicians. Schedules patients in compliance with designated research protocols.
