The Nurse Clinician-Hematology/Oncology, responsibilities include coordinating patient assessment, planning of care, discharge planning: and administering patient care and patient and family education. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment to provide developmentally appropriate and age-specific (infant, toddler, preschooler, school-age, adolescent, young adult) direct and indirect patient care and treatment management. Utilizes disease-specific knowledge base and the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation) to provide whole person care in the outpatient environment. Ensures continuity of care across the continuum, e.g., pre-admission and post hospitalization. Collaborates with other healthcare team members and participates in team conferences to coordinate implementation of treatment plan recommendations. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs additional team functions as required to maintain effective customer services. Performs other duties as needed.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. If hired into the Nurse Clinician position prior to April 1, 2020, an Associate Degree or Diploma Degree in Nursing required. Minimum of two years’ experience required.
Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; forecasting assessing/evaluating; spatial/form perception; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
California Registered Nurse (RN) license, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Nurses (APHON) Chemotherapy and/or Biotherapy Provider card preferred. Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse (CPON) preferred.
