We are looking for a Clinical Coordinator for the General Surgery Department at St. Jude Medical Center.

Location Fullerton, CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 10-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Assists the Nurse Manager in managing the effective service operations for all general patients for both Mission and CHOC Hospital. The MNI PACU Coordinator practices as an expert Post Anesthesia Care Registered Nurse in the clinical area. The Clinical Coordinator is a clinical and technical expert resource for surgeons and staff. The Clinical coordinator ensures that staff skill levels are competent for the care of patients with specific procedures. The Clinical Coordinator assists in the allocation of available resources and the integration of appropriate technologies to promote efficient, effective, safe, and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice. The Clinical coordinator provides leadership in knowledge synthesis, critical thinking, and problem solving, managing conflict, and addressing ethical issues. Adheres to the ANA Nursing Administration Scope and Standards of Practice.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaboratively manages the daily operations of the MNI PACU by providing leadership in a positive professional demeanor. This is achieved as follows:
  • Plans, organizes, controls, and coordinates department activities for a shift ensuring high quality patient care and efficient cost effective service.
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with all surgeons in the Perioperative specialty area. Executes orders, collaborating proactively with surgeons.
  • Executes physician preop orders to minimize surgical delays. Provides immediate follow-up on physicians concerns and ensures that physician orders are completed accurately and timely.
  • Collaborates with the Charge Nurse on staff assignments.
  • Builds effective teams committed to hospital and department organizational goals.
  • Coaches, counsels and mentors staff; provides ongoing recognition for staff contributions and outcomes.
  • Assists with interviewing; recommends the hire and orienting of unit personnel.
  • Acts as a role model for facilitating and implementing change effectively
  • Attends monthly MNI operational meetings.
  • Proactively conducts patient rounds and huddles.
  • Ensures consistent compliance with TJC, Title 22 and other community, state and federal regulatory agencies
  • Ensures quality and compliance standards are upheld and maintains environment for survey readiness.
  • Ensures compliance with Universal Protocol policy, Consent policy, traffic patterns, proper attire, and AORN Standards.
  • Conducts audits as needed.
  • Maintains unit safety standards by ensuring the staff follows proper safety procedures; identifies, corrects and reports safety issues as necessary.
  • Regularly performs the duties of a Recovery Services Nurse.
  • Utilizes nursing process to: perform comprehensive age specific assessments, identify formal teaching needs, develop and revise plan of care, implement safe and therapeutic care for patients.
  • Adheres to Nurse Practice Act standards.
  • Provides safe environment specific to age and development of patient population served.
  • Develops an ongoing plan for self-development and maintains clinical competence.
  • Implements long range plans in alignment with the overall objectives of the Department of Surgery and Mission Hospital for Stewardship, Patient Satisfaction, Physician Satisfaction, employee satisfaction and surgical excellence.
  • Implements plans for improving productivity in the areas of: on time first case starts, correct staffing ratios. Demonstrates consistent ability to lead and manage daily operations and respond positively under pressure.
  • Assess education needs of Recovery Services staff. Coordinates and plans for appropriate education opportunities to ensure staff competencies are maintained and provides in-services as indicated.

Minimum Position Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Coursework/Training - Training in ASPAN Standards.

Experience:

  • 2 years recent clinical experience in specialty area (PACU and/or critical care).
  • 2 years Leadership experience, i.e., charge nurse, specialty nurse, specialty lead, etc.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current CA RN license.
  • Current BLS.
  • Current ACLS.
  • Current PALS.
  • CPAN or CCRN to be acquired within 6 months.
  • Preceptor Certification to be acquired within 6 months.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's Degree
  • Coursework/Training - Trauma Hospital training.

Experience: 3 years experience specific to critical care and/or post-anesthesia care.

Licenses/Certifications: Second National Certification in specialty area as approved by American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Magnet
