Clinical Nurse (Oncology Registered Nurse) - Blood & Marrow Transplant (BMT) & Cellular Therapy (Acute Care Division)

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Clinical Nurse provides professional nursing care through assessment and accurate documentation, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation for the comfort and well-being of patients. Carries out a plan of care specific to unit competencies for the target patient population. Coordinates care delivery and education through collaboration with patient, family and all health care team providers to ensure safe, effective and quality patient care. Follows organizational policies in providing safe patient care. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hematology/Blood & Marrow Transplant units
Our patient centered nursing team has a passion for the care of oncology patients and appreciates the challenges and rewards on our units. Our patients are so special and appreciative and have a unique perspective on life. Our nurse to patient ratio is typically 3 or 4:1 and nurses spend time working with patients on both units.

Unit 41 Hematological Malignancies/ Blood & Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Cellular Therapy

This 20-bed protective environment unit specializes in the care of patients in our nationally accredited blood and marrow transplant and cellular therapy program. Newly diagnosed patients receive the latest treatment options available in our National Cancer Institute designated cancer program. These patients often experience longer hospital stays due to complex chemotherapy regimens, prolonged neutropenia and supportive care therapies including intravenous medications, electrolyte replacements and blood transfusions. Specialized nursing care is required to ensure optimal outcomes and our team is able to develop strong relationships with our patients over the course of their treatment. Our patient centered nursing team has a passion for the care of oncology patients and appreciates the challenges and rewards on our unit. Our patients are so special and appreciative and have a unique perspective on life. This unit will be transitioning to the Cambridge tower in late 2021 to a 34 bed unit.

Position Description:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required:

  • Patient Care Services - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • ADN prepared nurses hired after February 24, 2017, must complete BSN degree by the fifth anniversary of employment as an RN with UKHS. Must have at least 2 years of experience first for this unit.
  • BLS Certification
  • Registered Nurse in State of Kansas or compact state
  • 6 months to 2 years experience as a Clinical Nurse
