- Manages the care of complex and/or vulnerable populations through expert direct care, care coordination and collaboration with patients and families and other members of the health care team. Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by being knowledgeable about evidence and best practices for safety, speaking up about safety issues, and changing practice to enhance safety. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms and communicated these with appropriate leadership. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.
- Supports other members of the health care team, including nurses, physicians and allied health professionals through collaborative clinical practice, education, research/evidence based practice and consultation. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, students and other health care providers
- Facilitates change and innovation for patients/populations within the department, the health care system and the community. Analyzes and utilizes data, including patient satisfaction data, QI data, other data relevant to specialty populations and incident report/safety net data, to identify opportunities for improvement and to develop a plan of action in order to improve outcomes.

Presents research and evidence based practice findings to unit staff. Participates in regional/national programs relevant to specialty practice. Demonstrates health care informatics competencies in order to manage patient care, outcome data and current and emerging health care technology, which includes:
o Basic computer competency, including the effective use of patient care devices, computers, computer software programs such as e-mail and word processing programs, and shared network file space.
o Information literacy, including the effective use of the intranet and internet to find electronic resources for patient care, nursing practice and evidence-based decision-making.
o Information management skills, including the effective use of the electronic health record and clinical information systems, the ability to collect clinical data using quality tools and the ability to discuss, evaluate and analyze and present outcome data depicted in charts and tables
