Job Description

We are looking for a Charge RN - CNA (California Nurses Association) with the Surgery Department at St. Joseph Hospital Eureka.

Location: Eureka, CA

Schedule: Full Time, 80 bi-weekly hours

Shift: 10-hour Evenings

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager/Director, the Charge Nurse is responsible for efficient patient flow within the unit, delegation of patient assignments, and provides support to caregivers aligning their level of training, experience, and the patient acuity. The Charge Nurse works in collaboration with medical providers and ancillary caregivers to insure the quality of patient care. The Charge Nurse employs intellectual, interpersonal and technical skills using the nursing process to assist patients in achieving maximum health potential. Serving as the patient’s advocate, the Charge Nurse provides direct patient care, as needed, assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing care for patients of various ages as defined by the department scope of service. The Charge Nurse is a resource to ensure the implementation of the plan of care, adherence to policies and compliance with established standards of care/practice. The Charge Nurse may or may not provide input to caregiver performance and evaluations. NOTE: The Charge Nurse for the Childbirth Center (CBC) is required to triage patients and ensure MSE is performed on all unscheduled outpatients.

Skills:

• Ability to ensure patient confidence and comfort.

• Competent in job responsibility through appropriate licensure, orientation, annual competencies, and annual evaluation.

• Clearly and appropriately communicates with physicians, caregivers, families, and customers.

• Reads, understands, and interprets physician orders, instructions, correspondence, memorandums and medical records.

• Uses critical thinking and clinical judgment to problem solve

• Collaborates with caregivers and leadership on issues relating to personnel and clinical matters.

Position Requirements:

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school and/or proof of licensure by the State of California

Experience: Acute care with appropriate specialty expertise required. Excels in communication, collaboration, dependability, and follow-through.

Licensure: State of California as a Registered Nurse

Certification: Current CPR and ACLS certification is required.
