Job Description

We are looking for an RN to join our NICU/Peds team here at Yakima Valley Memorial. Our 15-bed NICU and 14-room Pediatric Unit are managed and staffed jointly. Staff are trained to the basic function of both roles and specialize in either NICU or Peds (as core staff members). Our NICU/Peds RNs are supported by dedicated Pharmacy and Dietary teams, and by Assistant Nurse Managers – both day and night.

RNs at Yakima Valley Memorial also enjoy support from a 24-hour Respiratory Team, IV Therapists, Social Workers and Chaplains.


The RN completes individualized patient assessments; develops a care plan based on assessment/history findings; delivers patient-centered care that is culturally appropriate; evaluates a patient’s response to care and revises as needed. The RN is accountable to deliver care as well as to oversee and delegate to other personnel (clinical & non-clinical) in delivering/supporting the delivery of care.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES - Registered Nurse Pediatrics

1. Utilizes any special equipment used on the unit.

2. Keeps current on all point of care lab equipment.

3. Provides pre-op teaching for patients.

4. Provides breastfeeding support to patients.

5. Teaches parents care of premature babies/helps prepare for care at home.

6. Manages all types of Pediatric admits.

7. Assists with car seat fit and challenges

8. Assists with family infant CPR instruction

5. Manages all types of Neonatal admits.

6. Assists with car seat fit and challenges.

7. Assists with family infant CPR instruction.

8. Assists with neonatal transports.


Education: Associate's degree in nursing required; BSN preferred.

Experience: Previous acute care nursing experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Washington State (DOH) Registered Nurse licensure required. American Heart Association BLS required.

Additional Certifications: Current NRP certification required (NICU). Current PALS certification preferred or must be obtained within 1 year of employment.

Additional Requirements: In addition to complying with the Yakima Valley Memorial Dress Code Policy, nursing staff working within NICU/Peds are required to remove all jewelry or watches from the elbow down when on shift for infection control purposes.
