Job Summary: Mental health nurses support people with a range of mental health issues. They aim to build good relationships with patients and their families so that everyone is involved in the therapy process. A mental health nurse has to be sympathetic and non-judgmental. You will need to be able to gain a patient’s trust. You’ll also need to manage emotional situations. Juneau is a thriving and close-knit community in a beautiful Southeast Alaska setting. Minimum Qualifications for the Job: Education: Graduation from accredited Nursing Program. Completes annual educational requirements. License(s): Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse licensure (must meet education requirement(s) for Alaska State licensure). Certification(s):   Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate. Experience:   Successful applicant will show demonstrated success in critical thinking skills. ​ RN I: New graduate RN, RNs with less than one (1) year current acute care or comparable experience, or RN with no nursing experience in the past five (5) years. New graduates will remain at the RN I level for at least six (6) months. Must advance to RN II within one year of hire. Proven competency in specialty area. Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility. RN II: Independently plans and implements routine nursing care in predictable situations using standards. Begins to assume leadership responsibility. Needs minimal supervision. Advancement from RN I or a minimum of one (1) year continuous recent experience in a comparable patient care setting. Clinical competency in primary specialty and a minimum of one (1) float area required within one year of attaining RN II status. RN III: Plans and implements nursing care, individualizing care as needed, without supervision. Able to manage routine and emergency care. Assumes basic leadership responsibilities. Advancement from RN II or a minimum of 3 years current acute care experience 2 of which are in primary unit specialty. Clinical competency in primary specialty and a minimum of one (1) float area required within one year of hire.
