Forensic Nurse Examiners are registered nurses who have completed specialized education and clinical preparation in the medical forensic care of the patient who has experienced sexual assault or abuse. They provide specialized care for patients who are victims of trauma (both intentional and unintentional). Forensic nurses also have a specialized knowledge of the legal system and skills in injury identification, evaluation and documentation. After attending to a patient’s immediate medical needs, a forensic nurse collects evidence, provides medical testimony in court, and consults with legal authorities.
This is a Casual status position. Casual positions are on-call and the schedule will be variable based on department need, and is therefore not guaranteed.
Education: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program. BSN preferred.
License(s)/Certifications: Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse license; current BLS
Experience: Two (2) years experience as an RN.
Training Requirements: Completion of BRH (or equivalent) SANE program competency requirements
Practice Notice: All new employees are required to produce a negative drug screen prior to start of employment.

Please note: In lieu of fringe benefits, casual employees receive a $2 an hour casual differential in addition to their hourly base rate of pay . Casual employees will not be scheduled to work a full time schedule for more than four (4) consecutive months or more than 780 hours annually. Casual employees must work a minimum of one (1) shift within a 90 day period to maintain status and employment.
