Infection Control/ Employee Health Nurse

Job Description

Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with a current North Carolina RN license or RN multi-state licensure privilege through the Nurse Licensure Compact required Minimum 3 years in clinical area, preferred experience in Employee Health/Occupational Health setting. Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in computer systems especially Windows and Microsoft Office. Certification in Infection Control preferred. Completes employee health history, assessment and drug screen for new employees. (Post-employment offer). Coordinates TB surveillance and response to exposures according to OSHA, CDC standards and FirstHealth policy. Coordinates Hepatitis B vaccine program for employees and volunteers. Coordinates Influenza vaccine program annually for employees and volunteers. Participates in Corporate Orientation Program for new employees and volunteers. Assist nursing and medical staff in instruction of patients and families regarding isolation and infectious diseases. Coordinates development of monthly/quarterly reports defined by the Infection Control Plans. Coordinates schedule and availability to perform routine pre-employment physicals and TB skin tests. Has systems established to ensure proper follow-up and recording of test results. Coordinates follow-up to exposures for communicable disease with staff, physicians, pharmacy etc. to insure prompt notification and treatment. Maintains system to ensure that proper notification and follow-up occurs for blood and body fluid exposures Assists with the development and implementation of a comprehensive Infection Control Program. Performs comprehensive medical record reviews. Maintain surveillance/trending data. Surveillance activities may include but not limited to: Post op wound infections, Central line and catheter associated infections, Primary blood stream infections, MRSA, C difficile, Environmental rounds, Other special studies. Assures the accuracy and integrity of all data and collection process. Develop a system for reporting, identifying, and analyzing the incidence and cause of infections. Review positive microbiology lab cultures of possible clinical significance with a review of each patient's medical record. Investigate infection sources, initiate cultures, and coordinate various departments involved in the event of outbreak. Serves as a resource on matters relevant to decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and hospital environment to prevent spread of infections. Assist with policy development and implementation. Facilitates groups/teams as assigned. Reviews all infection prevention activities for FH entities as assigned and provide feedback/recommendations to management.Serves as a resource and internal consultant for Joint Commission and other accreditation and regulatory activities. To develop and maintain a highly educated registered nursing staff to meet the present and future demands of the nursing profession, employees who begin employment with FirstHealth of the Carolinas in a position that requires a registered nurse must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within five (5) years of their employment date. ]]>
