In collaboration with an attending physician, the Front Line Ordering Clinician (FLOC) Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the direct care and follow-up of a population of patients that matches his/her delineation of privileges and skill set. This care is delivered in defined inpatient and hospital-outpatient areas. The components of the role include clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and research. The NPs in these roles may be required to have acute/critical care education and certification. The appropriate education/certification will be determined by the scope of the role in a particular practice area. The clinical portion of this role will require increased level of accountability including managing a cohort of high acuity patients. In addition to managing patient care, the FLOC NP may be required to utilize invasive interventions and procedures to promote physiologic stability. The role will also include off-shift responsibility. The off shift rotation schedule may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays and will be determined by the clinical needs of the practice environment.
The Surgical Inpatient team will consist of NPs that provide 24/7 support to the Medical-Surgical Unit at the King of Prussia Hospital. The NP will care for patients from the listed surgical specialties – Orthopedics, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastics, Urology and General Surgery. The unit will consist of 24 beds with a shared population of medical and surgical patients. The Surgical Inpatient NP will care for any surgical admissions, postoperative, or consult patients and will assist as needed with consults from the emergency room. The NP will work with all of the surgical attending staff and Surgical APP team at the King of Prussia Hospital to triage the appropriate care for every pediatric patient with the assistance of telemedicine as needed. The Surgical Inpatient team will onboard and orient at the University City Hospital in advance of the King of Prussia Hospital’s opening in Fall 2021.
The King of Prussia Hospital will blend acutely ill, surgical and injured patients from the surrounding communities and more specialized patients previously cared for at the University City campus. The King of Prussia Hospital will provide high-value care through optimal alignment of resources while meeting expectations of patients, families and staff in caring for target patient populations.
