Job Description:
The Lead Charge Nurse is a self-directed registered nurse who has been identified by the management team as having the clinical experience and leadership to coordinate patient care activities on a given shift. The Lead Charge Nurse must be able to coordinate the unit’s activities, delegate assignments appropriately, collaborate with all services of the hospital, assess the unit’s staffing, serve as a resource and role model and help resolve conflict. The Lead Charge Nurse’s goal for effective management and coordination of the unit activities is to obtain both the respect and cooperation of the staff on their assigned shift. The role requires the ability to balance the fact that you remain a peer to the staff while at the same time assuming the responsibility for managing and coordinating the patient care activities on the shift.
Experience:
Minimum two years experience working as a medical-surgical telemetry RN in an acute care setting. Must have served in the role of charge nurse.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS and ACLS required. Must pass the arrhythmia interpretation/telemetry test at 85% prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment of telemetry/monitored patients; then annually. PCCN preferred. NIHSS preferred. Membership within a professional nursing organization is preferred.
