Registered Nurse (RN) - Hematology/Oncology Inpatient Unit at Egleston

The Aflac Cancer Center is committed to excellence and innovation in pediatric cancer and blood disorders research. We are home to one of the largest clinical trial programs in the country—offering our patients access to some of the most novel treatment options in the country. In the 2020 US News and World Report, Children’s Aflac Cancer Program ranked 7^th in the nation and 1^st in Georgia. We have a collaborative team of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, technicians, social workers, case managers, chaplains, teachers, child-life specialists, pharmacists, nutritionists, rehab specialists, and research coordinators who provide comprehensive care to children with hematological and oncological disorders. When we work together, we continue to seek personalized cures for the most challenging childhood oncologic and hematologic conditions. Our goal is to provide an open clinical trial for every child we treat so our patients do not have to travel to other states for innovative care. We also serve as a referral center for patients from across Georgia and throughout the U.S. who otherwise might not have access to Phase I and II trials.

Our nursing team is made up of a little over 100 nurses, supported by leadership team, which includes two clinical educators, 4 assistant nurse managers, an administrative resource nurse and a clinical manager. All Aflac nurses have access to thoughtfully created classroom and simulation based learning, which augments the clinical orientation experience. In addition, Aflac nurses have the opportunity to further development through CPHON certification provided by ONCC.

The Clinical Nurse performs nursing process while providing direct patient care in a safe and effective manner that promotes quality patient outcomes. Functions as member of interdisciplinary healthcare team.

• Graduation from accredited school of nursing

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact

• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) within 1 year of employment as required by department

• 1+ year of nursing experience
• Hematology/Oncology experience strongly preferred

PROFESSIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

1. Completes orientation and initial assessment of competency successfully by determined due date.
2. Completes mandatory education and annual competency assessment requirements as defined by unit and system by due date.
3. Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable.

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
