Bariatric Program Coordinator- PRN

The Bariatric Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall planning and operation of the Surgical Weight Loss Program at VWCH. He/she will direct the on-going analysis, development, and implementation of methods and systems to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of services and program functions. He/she will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Surgical Weight Loss Program and serves as the liaison to coordinating care throughout the hospital.

  • Accountable for the development and management of the Bariatric Service Line and Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital accreditation process and ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements, maintaining relevant policies and procedures.
  • Member of ASMBS
  • Responsible for management of clinical staff including hiring, training, assigning, and directing the work flow to the staff.
  • Oversees clinical and administrative functions in support of surgical weight management program.
  • Liaison to surgeons performing metabolic and bariatric surgery at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital and general surgeons providing call coverage.
  • Assumes the management of patient care for a designated bariatric patient population by providing ongoing assessment and monitoring the patient's clinical, functional and psychosocial status.
  • Patient education.
  • Outcomes data collection.
  • Relevant staff education in the aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on safety.
  • Initiates Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Supports the development of written protocols and education of nurses detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical and vital signs that is specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events.

Department Summary:

The Vanderbilt Center for Weight Loss includes both surgical and non-surgical options for patient care. Our multispecialty team includes obesity medicine specialists, bariatric surgeons, nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians, psychologists, Social Workers and support staff. We work together to provide the comprehensive care needed to address all aspects of weight management.
