Job Description


Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) (Cardiology Services, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Medical Group - International Heart Institute in Missoula, Montana. In this position you will:

  • Assist the physician in office procedures including ECG’s
  • Clean and maintain exam rooms
  • Help cover other provider practices as needed to provide patient care; look at office practice collectively rather than individually
  • Perform IV therapy and medication administration as ordered by physician
  • Perform phlebotomy lab draws per physician orders
  • Process prescription refills in timely fashion according to IHI protocol
  • Promptly connect referring providers to IHI providers via phone transfer or takes and delivers messages quickly, professionally and appropriately
  • Provide patient education with clear, concise, and positive approach
  • Return patient phone calls promptly with test results and follow-up plan; speak clearly and provides concise information to patient
  • Screen telephone calls for referral to physician
  • Serve as a clinical RN resource for office staff, providing care to patients as ordered by physician
  • Take patient histories/assessments, vital signs, fill out the medication flow sheet, assess medication allergies/adverse reactions and anticipate the needs for that patient's visit
  • Work independently with physician/s to maintain timely flow of patients through office
  • Facilitate scheduling of cath lab procedures, provide patient education and prepares CVL packets prior to procedures
  • See patient in office, status post cath or other cardiac needs for nurse visits
  • Facilitate and coordinate scheduling of cath lab procedures; utilize critical thinking skills in screening CVL patients in re: to medical history, labs, medications, etc.
  • Provide pre-procedure patient education and prepare cath lab packets for CVL
  • Help to identify and track patients taking Amiodarone and enter data into Amiodarone data base
  • Perform nursing assessments, coordinate care of patient with provider and document plan of care on patients that come to IHI for nurse follow up
  • Assure correct ICD-9/10 diagnostic/HCPCS/CPT coding is used to transcribe patient diagnosis, procedures, services and supplies
  • Evaluate patients post procedure and/or hospital follow up providing RN physical assessment and documentation
  • Help develop educational materials and resources for patients and staff
  • Maintain patient files, record and other information; post dictation, test results, patient reports and correspondence in an organized fashion
  • Oversee appointment bookings and assist with scheduling and re-scheduling of patient appointments, referrals, tests, treatments, preauthorization of services and hospital services
  • Process patient charges according to TMI coding and Medicare reimbursement policies


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Montana State
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from the following authorized governing bodies: American Heart Association (AHA) - (BLS Provider), American Red Cross (ARC) - (BLS for Health Care Provider), or Military Training Network (MTN) – (Healthcare Provider) upon hire

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years or more of professional nursing experience in the care of cardiology patients
