Job Description

We are looking for a Staff Nurse - CNA (California Nurses Association) with the Radiation Oncology department at St. Joseph Hospital Eureka.

Location: Eureka, California

Schedule: Part time - 56 Biweekly hours

Shift: 8 Hour - Days

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Department Director and in collaboration with the radiation oncologists, is responsible for the nursing management of patients utilizing age-specific criteria, in the Radiation Oncology Department. Acts as liaison between the patient and the Oncologist, the department and SJHS-HC nursing departments, and the department and the community. Participates in plans for organizational improvement. Provides radiation safety in-service training on the care of radiation patients to SJHS-HC nursing staff. Performs other related tasks as required.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

· Reads and interprets documents such as prescriptions, physician’s orders, professional journals, safety rules, regulatory documents, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Interprets a variety of instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

· Writes routine reports and correspondence.

· Speaks articulately with and writes effectively to patients, physicians, SJHS-HC staff, and other health professionals. Effectively presents information and responds to questions from staff, clients, physicians, and the general public.

· Calculates figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume with a high degree of accuracy. Applies concepts of basic algebra and statistics. Performs medication dosage calculations accurately.

Solves practical problems and deals with situations where only limited standardization exists.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school and/or proof of licensure by the state of California and successfully passing a pharmacology test administered with a score of 85% or greater.

Experience: Experience in performing nursing assessments is required. Acute care experience preferred. Clinical knowledge and expertise with cancer patients, with practical knowledge about cancer treatment and chemotherapy is preferred. Computer skills at a user level are essential.

Knowledge: Staff members who treat patients of a specific age group must be aware of the regulatory requirements specific to that population. The specific information and skills related to the position presented in this job description are related to the following age group populations: adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Licensure: State of California as a Registered Nurse

Certification: Current CPR certification is required. Certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation is desired.
