Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.



The Outpatient Burn Coordinator maintains consistent quality of care for the burn patient at Eskenazi Health. This individual provides professional nursing care to burn patients by following their hospital course from the time of admission to follow-up visits in the Burn Clinic and/or for ambulatory burn patients who do not require hospitalization. This includes making rounds with the Burn Team weekly. The Outpatient Burn Coordinator obtains and maintains photo documentation weekly on outpatients and coordinates Burn Clinic in assessing the burn patient in various states of healing in coordination with the outpatient nurse practitioner and under the direction of the medical director.

  • Attends weekly inpatient burn rounds
  • Attends weekly outpatient complex patient meetings
  • Assists in coordination of discharge appointments and patient needs
  • Meets with patients prior to discharge to reinforce discharge education and teaching
  • Provides clinical care in clinic setting nursing visits for wound evaluation and management
  • Interfaces with multidisciplinary burn team to provide outpatient burn care
  • Assesses stages of wound healing closure, hypertrophic scarring, pigmentation changes and for signs of infection
  • Assesses need for pressure garments in collaboration with physical therapy
  • Assesses pain/anxiety management, itching management
  • Makes referrals to ancillary services under the direction of the MD/NP
  • Obtains prescriptions for dressing supplies/equipment/services by the MD/NP
  • Assists MD/NP in determination of patient readiness to return to work and suggests work hardening programs when appropriate; provides return to school/work slips
  • Assists in determination of readiness to return to other activities such as driving; refers to formal driving evaluation when needed
  • Provides referrals to community resources
  • Provides patient education
  • Makes rounds with Medical Director and or NP and takes notes on evaluation and patient treatment plans in clinic
  • Obtains photo documentation in clinic
  • Maintains outpatient charts to include nursing visits in gopher and dictation of clinic notes
  • Proficient in PHS system, outpatient and inpatient gopher, careweb
  • Ability to complete point of care testing and lab draws in clinic setting
  • Assists to develop/maintain outpatient protocols
  • Assists Medical Director/NP with impairment readings for worker’s compensation
  • Assists clinic scheduling department as needed to coordinate nursing and therapy visits
  • Assists in referrals to medical spa for burn patients requiring micro dermabrasion; sunscreen and skin care needs
  • Prepares patient for procedures/coordinates obtaining of consents
  • Collects outpatient data for attorneys, disability, worker's compensation and probation officers
  • Maintains monthly clinic statistics and charge reconciliation for area management and finance department
  • Participates in monthly burn performance improvement committee meetings and projects associated with PI with outpatient care
  • Provides professional nursing education related to the burn outpatient to visitors and or outlying facilities as needed
  • Able to delegate to burn clinic care technician, scheduling personnel and registrar



  • Performs other job related duties as assigned



  • Current Indiana RN license (or ability to obtain through application)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in burn or wound care
  • Certification in Wound Care preferred
  • BLS/ACLS certifications required
  • ABLS certification within one year of hire
