The Clinical Nurse MC (SSN)-FIT is part of Loma Linda University Shared Services (LLUSS) supplemental staffing. The FIT nurse does not have a physical home unit, but instead, functions out of a home department and self-schedules or is assigned to units/departments on an as needed basis. The FIT nurse supplements unit-based/department-based staffing resources as needed, e.g., sick calls, vacations, federal and state legislative leaves, vacancies. Serves as a team member on multiple units/departments and readily accepts full assignments. Exhibits flexibility by rotating through all units within neighborhoods in which the FIT nurse has obtained competency. Functions in a patient-centered care model of practice and performs the nursing process independently. Serves as a role model in patient care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical practice, communication and documentation. Facilitates the empowerment of the nursing profession and embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Functions in a skills mix environment and directly supervises and delegates tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. May be required to participate in on-call rotation based on department business needs. May be required to serve in shift coordinator role upon completion of shift coordinator orientation. Performs other duties as needed.

Associate Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. One year recent clinical nursing experience in respective area required.

Demonstrates proficient competencies in clinical nursing for multiple units/departments in assigned neighborhood(s). Skillfully adapts a variety of clinical settings. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in neighborhood(s) of specialty. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Exhibit professional behavior at all times. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required. Other certifications as required in the Department Plan for Providing Care and may be obtained during orientation process.
