Vascular Access Team -

The Clinical Nurse C–Vascular Access Team (VAT) is a Registered Nurse which specializes in difficult vascular access for pediatric and adult patients with complex medical conditions. Provides services to inpatients and outpatients within Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) licensed hospitals and outpatient services on the Loma Linda campus. Functions in a fast-paced environment and places difficult peripheral IVs (PIV), peripheral inserted central catheters (PICC) via ultrasound, ultrasound guided midline and extended dwell catheters for difficult access patients. Educates patients regarding procedure and ensures informed consents are obtained as designated in policy. Supports the Internal Medicine Hospitalist Procedure Team with paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, bone marrow, central line placements and other procedures as needed. Recognizes questionable medical cases or complex issues and consults with medical director and/or service chiefs as needed to ensure quality safe patient care and infusions. Functions in a patient-centered care model of practice and performs the nursing process independently. Serves as a role model in patient care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical practice, communication and documentation. Facilitates the empowerment of the nursing profession and embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Performs other duties as needed.
Associate's Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or enrolled in BSN program preferred. If hired after January 1, 2018, Bachelor’s Degree or in progress required, or, an Associate’s Degree in Nursing with a Bachelor’s Degree in another field and a Master’s Degree in Nursing or in progress required. Minimum three years acute care clinical nursing experience required. Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required. Vascular Access Board Certification preferred. Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance required at time of hire. Other as outlined in the department Plan for Providing Care. Must have and maintain good driving record.
Must meet standards outlined in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook.
In-depth knowledge of vascular access principles and practice. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and survey process required. Demonstrates advanced competencies in vascular access, clinical nursing, and communications skills required. Exhibits professional behavior at all times. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills. Able to read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
