We are looking for an RN to join the Surgical Services Team at Virginia Mason Memorial! The PeriAnesthesia RN (Surgery Prep/PACU RN) provides patient-centered care in the pre- and post-surgical setting, following ASPAN standards. The Surgery Prep RN offers calming reassurance, education, and interventions tailored to each patient's unique surgery admission needs. The Recovery Room RN provides individual bedside interventions for patients emerging from anesthesia after surgery. The PACU RN works in a fast-paced critical care environment that offers a unique variety of patient care opportunities.
RNs in Surgical Services at Virginia Mason Memorial enjoy support from a 24-hour Lift Team, 24-hour Respiratory Team, Pharmacy (24-hour med mixing), Social Workers and Chaplains.
The RN completes individualized patient assessments; develops a care plan based on assessment/history findings; delivers patient-centered care that is culturally appropriate; evaluates a patient’s response to care and revises as needed. The RN is accountable to deliver care as well as to oversee and delegate to other personnel (clinical & non-clinical) in delivering/supporting the delivery of care.
PACU, RN Responsibilities include:
1. Responsible to perform timely patient assessments, documentation, and interventions within the nursing scope of practice in fast-paced, schedule-driven care environment.
2. Serve as a trusted and reliable educator about the surgery process for the patient and family.
3. Required to delegate, supervise, and evaluate as necessary, while simultaneously executing immediate directives and interventions in urgent or emergent situations.
4. Required to cross-train between areas to understand and offer competent care in all PeriAnesthesia units.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associate's degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
Experience: Previous Critical Care or Recovery Room experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Washington State (DOH) Registered Nurse licensure required. American Heart Association BLS required until ACLS and PALS are obtained. ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire.
Additional Requirements: Call requirements with a 20-minute response time required for Part- and Full-Time staff members.
