Job Description

Responsibilities

The LVN on the Perinatal Units, under RN supervision performs the following responsibilities: Clinical: the assessment of basic & complex patient care problems both actual and potential. Collaborates with the RN and MD to formulate a patient plan of care; updates the care plan with input from all team members, assumes an active role in the actual planning of patient care goals. Assists in providing and maintaining a safe patient care environment. Prepares and administers medications according to policy. Keeps self-current with orders written for assigned patients.Performs other specific functions according to specific protocols. Assists in emergency situations. Documents records. Teaching: Participates in developing, implementing and evaluating the patient and family teaching plan for effectiveness. Assists in assessing learning needs of students, new LVNs and floats. Orients LVN staff, students, and floats. Professional Standards: support institutional standards and systems operations. Fulfillment of work schedule commitments. Completion of health courses and requirements per policy, maintains appearance, conduct and attitude of the LVN role model.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
Current active licensure as an LVN in the State of California.
Knowledgeable in university, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures. Be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to perform basic nursing functions in the care of patients.
Must be able to organize work, set priorities and work under stress. Must be able to accept direction, be flexible, and work scheduled hours as needed.
Blood and IV withdrawal required.
Minimum of 6 months of LVN experience required.
Experience in a perinatal unit and scrub nurse experience preferred.

BLS from the AHA or ARC, required
