Clinical Nurse (Registered Nurse)

  • The University of Kansas Hospital
  • Kansas City, KS, USA

Job Description

We are currently hiring for a Clinical Nurse (Registered Nurse) on our Renal and Organ Transplant Unit.

Day, night and weekend shift options potentially available!

Unit 64-Inpatient Solid Organ Transplant and Renal Progressive Care

Nurses on this 24 bed unit provide compassionate, comprehensive care to critically ill patients throughout all phases of the organ transplant experience. As a member of the transplant care team, nurses provide specialized care to patients who are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant as well as those recovering from organ transplant surgery. The Center for Transplant at The University of Kansas Health System is the largest and most successful transplant program in the region. Nurses on Unit 64 have the opportunity to work as a vital member of a nationally recognized program specializing in the care of liver, kidney and pancreas transplant patients.

Unit 64 has a reputation throughout the Organization for being welcoming, inclusive, hard-working and FUN!

Our primary patient population is solid organ transplant. We care for patients before and after organ transplant surgery. We also have a large volume of surgery patients who have undergone complex abdominal surgeries secondary to cancer. The patient acuity on Unit 64 is very high. Our nurses receive specialty training to be able to provide ICU level of care on the progressive care Unit.

Unit 64 is a great training environment for both new and experienced nurses. Many of our patients have NG tubes, wound vacs, complex dressing changes and drains. This allows a less experienced nurse to gain valuable experience caring for patients with unique surgical complexities.

Nurse patient ratios vary based on patient acuity.

Unit 64 offers staff the unique opportunity to be a part of The Gift of Life.
